CVMC Issues Golden Sock Awards For Summer Months

At Carson Valley Medical Center, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond for our patients – to the extent that we have come to define our Standard of Care as striving to “Knock The Socks Off” of our patients and their families through every step of their journey to good health and wellness with the effort and thought we put into their care.
With that in mind, this year our patient experience team established the Golden Sock Award to recognize individuals within our organization who have truly gone above and beyond to represent that ideal both in who they are and what they have done for our patients.
Monday, Aug. 19 marked the second award ceremony this year, celebrating the moments where our staff has gone above and beyond for the benefit of our patients over the course of the last quarter. Nominations come from fellow employees who witness these extra-effort moments.
For the summer quarter, CVMC awarded two “Golden Sock” awards.
Maria K., a nurse in our emergency department, came in on her day off to help check on a patient’s horse in a trailer parked in the parking lot. The patient, concerned about being transferred to a different facility, was put at ease while Maria tended to the horse until the patient’s friend were able to come to pick up the horse.
Heather T., one of our security guards, was chatting with a patient and during the course of the conversation, learned it was the patient’s birthday. Heather later purchased a birthday card and brought it back to the patient, who was moved to tears by the gesture.
Other nominees for this quarter’s award included Kimberley H. in our Dietary department; Heather P. (Ironwood Primary Care); Nicole Z. (CVMC Inpatient); Rick M. (Rehabilitation Services); Tom M. (Engineering); Chris K. (IT), Daphne H. (Dietary); Davia E. (Nursing Admin); Dorothy S. (Admitting); Ellen G. (Surgery); Kathy T. (CVMC Wound Care); Kimberli S. (CVMC Senior Care); Makela P. (Rehabilitation Services); Mike W. (Emergency); Rebecca S. (CVMC Inpatient) and Tamela T. (Medical Staff Office).
Each of the nominees received a Golden Sock pin to put on their name badge.
